The start of a good camp

28th July 2024

The start of a good camp

Camp is all set up, and it’s starting to feel like home. We’ve been blessed with all of the mountain weather types, including brilliant sunshine, and a spectacular thunderstorm last night.

The day started with breakfast, followed by a Flag Break with Scouts from Cyprus, Portugal, Spain and the exotic locations of Scotland, Manchester and Wales. Camp was opened by a Scout from Cyprus, and our very own Henry, an Explorer, recited the Scout Promise for everyone. Competitive rock paper scissors ensued, followed by activities to get to know the others on our camp. The rest of the day has been spent in Patrols, getting to know the Kandersteg International Scout Centre site, and exploring the Kandersteg Village.

This evening, we’re looking forward to joining the other Groups at KISC for an international evening, showcasing the best Malling, Kent and the UK has to offer. We’ll also preparing for the first of the early mornings tomorrow, with Patrols starting on Programme rotations tomorrow. O, Q, T & U are off to their large activity, either doing High Ropes, Canyoning, White Water Rafting or Rock Climbing. N, P, R & S are off to Oeschinensee, an alpine lake, to take in the view, have a paddle, and ride on the mountain coaster. B, C, E & F are off on their Chocolate and Cheese tour, visiting Gruyere. And A, D, G & H are spending the day in Kandersteg Village, taking a swim, and exploring the village.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s news!
