This weekend's pre-event - final info
1st May 2024
We covered most of what we’ve got in this email on our call last week, although based off a few questions we have since received, we’ve updated some information, adding extra description. If you need to, and haven’t yet caught up on last Wednesday’s call, here are the slides and recording.
Arrivals – On Friday 3 May: Scouts should arrive at 19.15, Explorers should arrive at 19.30. If you are dropping off Scouts and Explorers, please drop them at the Scouts time, 19.15.
Road Closures – We’ve become aware of daily closures at Junction 6 of the M20, on the Running Horse Roundabout. This will affect most people arriving at Lower Grange Farm! The road closures are due to be between 7pm and 7am each night. We recommend that you stay on the M20 up to Junction 7, and then travel towards Penenden Heath. At the roundabout in Penenden Heath, turn right, and then follow the brown Lower Grange Farm sign that takes you down Grange Lane. For those of you who came to Quest, you’ll be familiar with this one-way system.
Food – We are providing all food over the weekend – there’s no need to bring extra snacks, and certainly no need to bring energy drinks. As a reminder, we are a nut free contingent, due to very severe allergies among attendees, so even though no snacks are needed, please make sure that no nuts come on camp.
Departures – On Sunday 5 May: Scouts should be picked up at 13.30, Explorers should be picked up at 13.45. If you are picking up Scouts and Explorers, please pick them up at the Explorers time, 13.45.
Medication – Drop-off is a drop and dash style arrangement, similar to the last pre-event. As with last time, young people should bring their medication in a named tub or bag, and hand this in at check-in. The Welfare Team will be supporting at check-in and will be making sure that everyone who needs to take medication takes it at the times they need it.
Kit List – A reminder, the Kit List is available on our website – we shared this kit list, which includes pre-event and main event kit needed ahead of the last pre-event, so this won’t be new to you! Please make sure your young person has everything they need, and that it is all named!
Phones – As mentioned on the info call last week, the working policy is that Scouts should not bring their phones with them, but that Explorers may. If phones are brought to the pre-event, or on the trip, they are done at your own risk, and we can’t accept responsibility for any loss or damage. If young people are on their phones too much, an adult will talk to them – if they persist, adult volunteers may confiscate their phone.
Revision space – We chose this weekend as it’s before the main exam period, and so that the Sunday afternoon and Monday can be used to rest and revise. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend, and for those who want to take a little time out to revise, we will be providing a space for this.
InTouch – Please remember that we have an InTouch process which we are using whenever we’re on-event – this includes the pre-events and the main event. You can read more about this on our website. As a reminder, you shouldn’t try and contact us on-event; contact our home contact(s) if you need to contact us, and they’ll pass the messages on. We’ll be closing our email inbox from 12noon this Friday 3 May – we’ll start picking emails up again on Monday 6 May – if you email us you’ll receive an automatic reply, and we won’t be actively checking the inbox; please use our InTouch Process instead.
Safety – We covered off how we keep everyone safe on our online call last week. We have now added our risk assessment for this weekend to the Key Documents page on our website, should you wish to view it.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at pre-event 2, this Friday.
Many thanks,
The Kandersteg ’24 Team
