  • William Warriors - Did we get crushed or were we the Crushers?

    13th October 2013

The William Warriors explorers entered the Kent County Explorer/ Network Challenge to build a Water Melon Crusher held at Kent Scouts Lower Grange Farm Activity Centre

After 3 hours of lashing, undoing and more lashing we finally succeed in building a water melon crusher, that is if you want your water melon crushed into 4 pieces.

It was a great weekend, with access to the new climbing wall, archery, shooting and zorbing, all finished off with Fish N Chips (or a pie), music, campfire, man hunt etc.

Oh yes forgot... bacon butty for breakfast the following morning.

William Warriors Explorer Scout group donned their hard hats and hi visibility vests this week and were given a lesson in bricklaying at Ward Homes latest development in Kings Hill, Jubilee Court.

After briefing the eager 14 – 17 year old Explorers, Assistant Site Manager, Terry Hayward and Bricklayer Jerry Stockbridge gave them a full introduction to bricklaying.

The group will be able to take their new founds skills away and using bricks donated by the Kent based house builder build a brick BBQ to cater for 100 to 200 people at the District campsite in Mereworth.

The morning session culminated with the group creating a mini version of the full size BBQ.

Nicola Mallet, Explorer Scout Leader commented: “I had been walking past what looked like a pile of unused bricks for some time and knew they’d be perfect for the BBQ so I contacted Ward Homes. It was a bonus for us to get a lesson in bricklaying as well as all the bricks and the Explorer Scouts would like to thank Ward Homes for this unique opportunity. Having seen the development being built over the last few months, it is has been a real treat for us to be on the other side of the fence, seeing what a skill bricklaying really is.”

Pam Reardon, Sales Director for Ward Homes commented: “We are always trying to involve the local community with our new developments and are thrilled that we could help the Scouts out and they were able to enjoy this learning experience at Jubilee Court.”
