St Georges Day 2016
25th April 2016
Fantastic day yesterday for Malling Scouts at our St Georges Day celebrations with so much support from parents and public in West Malling lining the streets.
Well done to all our young people and leaders who came along and braved the cold!
Tree planting at campsite
1st November 2015

I'm really pleased to tell you that we are being given 420 saplings from the Woodland Trust to be planted at the campsite which are arriving in a few weeks time. This is a lovely mix of crab apple, blackthorn, elder, hazel and dog rose and we will be planting these around the campfire circle and then along the edge of the new footpath and particularly to screen off the newly seeded top pitch.
We do of course need help to plant all of these trees so please come along on Saturday 14 November from 9.30 to 2.30 (or when you can during that time) to give us a hand. Bring a spade and a packed lunch and we will provide tea, coffee, soup etc.
If you want to bring any of your sections along to help please let Ken know so that he can be prepared for arrivals and do remind any young people to wear warm clothing, a coat and boots. All youth members will need to be supervised by either a leader or a parent so please don't suggest they come along on their own
This is a great opportunity to enhance our campsite even further and to screen the campfire circle. I do hope you will be able to help out for a couple of hours and you will then be able to track the progress of your trees and in a few years time who knows we can have a day making jam, sloe gin, and elderflower cordial from the harvest!!
Many thanks in advance for your support.

Nominations for District Youth Commissioner.
29th September 2015
Dear all
As mentioned at our AGM last week I am very pleased to be able to invite nominations for our District Youth Commissioner. This is a role for someone who is keen to shape Scouting in Malling and is 18-25 years of age. Ideally the role should be a three year appointment.
The role is split into the following four areas and a full role description is attached.
- Supporting youth shaped Scouting within the Programme
- Developing young people
- Embedding young people in local decision making
- Wider engagement
We recognise that this is a role which would be more effective within a team and it is envisaged that the Youth Commissioner will appoint a team of deputies to work with them.
If you think that you would like to be considered for this role or you would like to nominate someone who you feel would be an ideal candidate please complete the nomination form as fully as possible and return to me by Monday 26 October. if you have any queries or would like to discuss the role further please let me know.
Please circulate this as widely as possible to ensure that we reach all our 18-25 year olds. It is also possible that there may be someone who has recently left Scouting that may wish to be considered.
I look forward to receiving your nominations!!
